Safety checks and pilot verification process on AvioSharing
Safety & compliance

Safety first, always

AvioSharing is built around safety and legal compliance. Here's exactly how we protect everyone who uses the platform.

Pilot verification

Every pilot is verified before listing a flight

Unlike general aviation classifieds, AvioSharing requires all pilots to complete a two-step verification process before their first flight can go live.

Licence review
Our team manually reviews each pilot's PPL, CPL, or ATPL certificate. Expired licences are rejected.
Identity verification
Each pilot's real-world identity is confirmed with a government-issued ID scan.
Medical currency
Pilots declare their medical certificate is current. We flag profiles when declared medicals are approaching expiry.
Continuous monitoring
Verified status can be revoked at any time by our team if concerns arise. Passengers can report issues.

Legal framework

Cost-sharing flying is legal in most countries under specific rules. AvioSharing enforces these rules automatically.

Europe (EASA)
EU Regulation 965/2012
  • Pilot must have a genuine reason to fly
  • No advertising for profit
  • Maximum 6 passengers on non-complex aircraft
  • Cost divided equally including pilot's own share
United Kingdom
UK CAA guidance (post-Brexit)
  • Mirrors pre-Brexit EASA rules
  • CAA Article 239 exemption applies
  • Pilot must share the purpose of the flight
  • UK flights not publicly listed (behind login)
United States (FAA)
FAR 61.113(c)
  • Private pilots may share operating expenses
  • Pro-rata share only. No profit
  • Pilot must have a bona fide purpose for the flight
  • US flights are login-gated per FAA guidance

Regulations vary by country. Pilots are responsible for ensuring their flights comply with local aviation law. AvioSharing displays relevant regulation summaries but does not constitute legal advice. When in doubt, consult your national aviation authority.

Insurance & liability

Passengers fly under the same insurance coverage as any other occupant of a private aircraft.

Hull & liability
Aircraft must be insured by the owner or aero club. Pilots confirm insurance coverage when listing. Minimum EU-mandated third-party liability applies.
Passenger liability
Under EU Regulation 785/2004, aircraft operators must carry passenger liability insurance. This covers occupants in the event of an incident.
Platform liability
AvioSharing is a marketplace. We connect pilots and passengers but are not an air operator. We carry marketplace liability insurance for our platform operations.

Your first flight

Not sure what to expect? Here's a quick guide.

Before you book
Read the pilot's profile, their reviews, and the aircraft details. Check the route and departure airport. Message the pilot with any questions.
On the day
Arrive 30 minutes early. Bring valid photo ID. Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. The pilot will brief you before departure.
Safety briefing
Your pilot will explain emergency procedures, how to use the seatbelt and headset, and what to do if you feel unwell. Don't hesitate to ask questions.
After the flight
Leave an honest review. It helps other passengers and holds pilots accountable. If anything felt unsafe, report it to our team immediately.
