General
What is AvioSharing?
AvioSharing is a worldwide flight sharing platform that connects private pilots with passengers who want to experience private aviation. Pilots list their planned routes and share the direct costs (fuel, landing fees, etc.) with passengers on a per-seat basis.
Is flight sharing legal?
Yes. Cost-sharing flying is explicitly permitted under EU Regulation 965/2012 (EASA), UK CAA rules, and FAA regulations. AvioSharing enforces the legal cost-sharing cap: pilots declare their total direct costs and the platform divides them equally among all occupants. Pilots can never profit.
What countries does AvioSharing operate in?
AvioSharing supports flights under EASA regulations (all EU and EASA member states), UK CAA rules, and FAA cost-sharing rules for US-based flights. Flights are listed globally using ICAO airport codes. US-origin flights are visible to verified logged-in users only, due to FAA advertising restrictions.
Is AvioSharing an air charter service?
No. AvioSharing is a marketplace that connects pilots and passengers for cost-shared general aviation flights. We do not operate aircraft, employ pilots, or provide commercial air transport services. All pilots are private pilots sharing their own planned journeys.
For Passengers
Do I need any experience or licence to fly as a passenger?
No. Passengers need no qualifications, pilot licence, or prior aviation experience. The licensed pilot is fully responsible for the safe conduct of the flight.
How much does a typical flight cost?
Prices vary by route, aircraft type, and number of passengers. Typical costs range from €50 to €300 per seat for European routes. The pilot enters the total direct costs, and the platform divides that by all occupants (including the pilot). You see a full cost breakdown before booking.
How do I book a flight?
Browse flights at /flights, choose a route and pilot, and send a booking request with a short message. No payment is taken at this stage. The pilot has 24 hours to approve or decline. Once approved, you have 24 hours to pay your seat. If either window lapses, the request expires automatically.
What happens if a pilot cancels?
You receive a full refund automatically. Pilot cancellation history is visible on their public profile, so you can evaluate reliability before booking.
Are the pilots insured?
All flights must comply with the aircraft's hull and liability insurance. Pilots confirm their aircraft insurance is current when listing a flight. Passengers fly under the same insurance as any other occupant of a private aircraft.
What aircraft types will I fly on?
Primarily single-engine piston aircraft: Cessna 172, Piper PA-28, Diamond DA40, and similar. Some pilots fly more advanced aircraft. Check the specific listing for full details including aircraft registration and type.
For Pilots
How do I start listing flights?
Sign up, complete verification (pilot licence review + identity check), and list your first flight. Most pilots are verified and listing within one business day. Verification is required before any flight can go live.
What qualifications do I need?
Any valid EASA, UK CAA, or FAA private pilot licence (PPL or higher) for the aircraft type you intend to fly. Your licence must be current and your medical certificate valid. Commercial or charter licences are not required: cost sharing is a private pilot activity.
How is the price per seat calculated?
You enter the total direct costs of your planned flight: fuel, landing fees, aircraft rental (if applicable). The platform divides that by the total number of occupants, including you as the pilot. This is the EASA-required formula. You may not charge more.
Do I have to accept every booking request?
No. Every booking is a request. You have 24 hours to approve or decline with a message. You are never obligated to accept a passenger you are not comfortable flying with.
When and how do I receive payment?
Passenger payments are held in escrow. After you mark the flight complete, your cost share is released to your bank account. Typical payout time is 2 business days.
What is the platform fee?
AvioSharing charges a 12% fee on the passenger price. You receive your share of the direct costs in full. The platform fee is charged on top of that to the passenger.
Safety & Trust
How are pilots verified?
All pilots complete a two-step verification: (1) our team manually reviews the pilot's licence certificate, and (2) a government ID scan confirms their identity. Only verified pilots can publish flights.
What if I have a safety concern about a flight or pilot?
Contact us immediately at safety@aviosharing.com. We take all safety reports seriously and will investigate promptly. In an emergency, always contact local emergency services first.
What if the pilot does not show up?
You receive a full automatic refund. Report the no-show via the booking page and our team will review the pilot's account.
Are reviews genuine?
Reviews can only be left by passengers who completed a paid flight. No anonymous or unverified reviews are possible. Both pilots and passengers review each other, creating mutual accountability.
Payments & Refunds
What payment methods are accepted?
All major credit and debit cards are accepted. Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported on compatible devices.
When am I charged?
Payment is taken when you confirm your booking after pilot approval. Funds are held securely and only released to the pilot after the flight is marked complete.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, in the following cases: pilot cancels the flight (full automatic refund), flight does not take place (full refund), or you cancel before the pilot has approved (no charge taken). Cancellations after payment follow the refund policy shown at booking time.
Is my payment information secure?
All payment processing is handled by a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. AvioSharing never stores card details.
